Valerie Edwina Saunders
Valerie Edwina Saunders is the founder and CEO of Metropolitan Film.
She is currently producing and co-directing the international theatrical movie Prima Ballerina with the renowned cinematographer and director Hagen Bogdanski in their first director collaboration.
She has previously worked at The Royal Danish Theater, The Danish National School of Performing Arts and Zentropa. Valerie Edwina Saunders studied music at The Universty of Minnesota before settling in Denmark in order to continue her musical studies on the flute with Kjeld Mardahl. Valerie Edwina Saunders later graduated from The University of Aarhus with a degree in political science and cultural aesthetics.
She started her career at the Royal Danish Theater’s sound department and was soon primarily associated with the Royal Danish Ballet. One of the first productions she was attached to was the reboot of Flemming Flindt’s Triumph of Death, with music by Savage Rose. Valerie Edwina Saunders began her career in film by directing the documentary Cowboy & Angel. She then produced and directed the short live-action film Sofies’ Heart and the short animated film Ballerina.
Valerie Edwina Saunders produced the Academy Award nominated director Petter Næss’ WWII film Into the White starring Rupert Grint, David Kross, Stig Henrik Hoff, Lachlan Niebohr and Florian Lukas alongside Peter Aalbæk Jensen. Valerie Edwina Saunders went on to found Metropolitan Film where she has a few scripted TV shows and feature films in development. Among these are the international theatrical movie Prima Ballerina and the animated series Wild Danish / Vildbasserne, which was presented at Cartoon Forum in 2022 through her animation production company, Zebra Animation Studios.
